Pittsburgh +28.5

December 1, 2007
Mountaineer Field, Morgantown, WV
7:45 PM ET

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the West Virginia Mountaineers get ready to battle in the 100th edition of the annual Back yard Brawl this Saturday. The opening line on this tilt has the Mounties as a 4 touch- down favoite, which in my opinion is just a bit steep considering how competitive the Panthers have been lately. Beating Cincinnati and Syracuse and not looking out of place against Navy,Louisville , Rutgers and USF are prime examples of a win hungry team. I know how explosive this West Virginia team is, but with this being a rivalry game, I would not be surprised to see Wannstedts black cats sticking around in this one for at the least the first half. The Mountaineers are 1-8 ATS L/9 after an ATS win.

This Saturday night the bet is on the Pittsburgh Panthers against the West Virginia Mountaineers…

Green Bay Packers +7.0

November 29, 2007
Texas Stadium, Irving, TX
8:15 PM ET,

A huge NFC showdown takes place tonight as the (10-1) Green Bay Packers invade Texas to take on the (10-1) Dallas Cowboys. A win here would allow the Cowboys to take one step closer to securing their first NFC East crown since 1998, while the Packers would clinch the NFC Central for the first time since 2004 coupled with a Detroit loss this weekend.

Last we saw the Packers was Thursday afternoon when they handed the Detroit Lions and the Motor City yet another loss on Thanksgiving. Brett Favre and the Packers offense started off slowly in the first quarter, but wasted no time after the first stanza expired. A close game was quickly turned into a laugher when the Packers put 17 on the board in the 2nd quarter and went into the half with an 8-point lead. That lead was extended to 19 after three quarters and they went on to pick up their fifth road win of the season.

Dallas also got some action in on Turkey Day and simply annihilated the visiting NY Jets. The 34-3 final score could have been a lot worse, but the Dallas coaching staff called the dogs off in the fourth to allow their regulars to start focusing on tonight’s big game.

The Cowboys have been installed 7-point favorites in this spot with the “Total” set at 52. The Packers come into this match-up white-hot against the betting line going an absurd 10-1-1 ATS their L/12 overall games. They’re in the midst of a five-game ATS winning streak and have gone an unbelievable 8-0-1 ATS their L/9 road games. However, Dallas holds the current ATS series trends in their back pockets with the home team and favorite going a combined 11-1 ATS the L/6 times they’ve met.

That being said, I’m going to side with Brett Favre and the Packers in this spot simply because they boast more field experience. Favre is having a magnificent season, and I really like the way the offense has taken off with its new and exciting young talent. The Packers also boast the better overall D-Fence, so grab the points with the cheese heads in a game that hopefully won’t be at all disappointing.

This Thursday night the bet is on the Green Bay Packers +7 …

Akron +2.5

November 23, 2007
Rubber Bowl , Akron , OH
11:00 AM ET

The Akron Zips may be just 4-7 straight up this year, but they do have a winning 6-5 mark against the spread and they get the call to handle the Central Michigan Chippewas at home in this early Friday kickoff.

Believe it or not, the Zips have played just three home games this season and they are 2-1 both SU and ATS in those games. The last time they played here, they were underdogs of less than a field goal exactly as they are here, and they responded with a 48-37 triumph over the Ohio Bobcats.

The Chippewas are 6-5, but they are actually allowing more points per game (38.5) than they are scoring (33.5) this season, which is not a trait you’d like to see in a road favorite. Comparatively, Akron is allowing about 10 points less per contest at 28.6. Furthermore, Central Michigan is probably still reeling from a 48-45 home loss to lowly Eastern Michigan as a 14-point favorite last week.

Akron is playing with double revenge here after losing to CMU each of the last two seasons, and we look for the Zips to get their revenge here.

This Thursday afternoon the bet is on the Akron Zips…

Mississippi vs. Mississippi State over 47

November 23, 2007
Scott Field , Starkville , MS
12:30 PM ET

The battle for the State of Mississippi football supremacy takes place in Starkville Friday afternoon as the Mississippi Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs partake in the 106th installment of the Egg Bowl.

The Rebels put forth a gritty home effort against LSU last week succumbing to the #1 ranked team in the country by a 41-24 final count, while the Bulldogs did their best not to suffer a letdown after defeating Alabama two weeks ago vs. Arkansas. It wasn’t to be however, as the Razorbacks pulled away for the eventual home win and cover by a 45-31 final count.

This is a series that the state of Mississippi gets up for year in and year out regardless of how bad each teams season has gone. The folks in Starkville would love nothing better than to see the Golden Egg sit perched atop the Bulldogs trophy case in the same year the Bulldogs managed to go bowling for the first time since 2000.

The Rebels have been solid at home all season long competing with Top 25 talent, but their story on the road is of a much different variety. Their lone win came against a putrid Memphis team at the beginning of the year that almost saw them squander a 20-point halftime lead to eventually win by a 23-21 final count. Their next three road affairs saw them lose to Vandy, Georgia, and Auburn by a combined 93-37. Needless to point out, but the Rebels are a much different team outside the comfy confines of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

As for the Bulldogs, Head coach Sylvester Croom are already Bowl eligible, but they’d do themselves a huge favor by securing their seventh win of the season just in case. Since dropping a lopsided affair to LSU to open the season, the Bulldogs are 3-1 SU at home with an impressive win over Alabama a couple weeks ago. The Starkville faithful have only seen their team play once over the last month at home, so its safe to say the cowbells will be out of control as the 55,000+ pack the stands of Davis Wade Stadium.

The Rebels have gotten balanced production the last couple weeks with QB Schaeffer and RB Green-Ellis most recently doing some solid damage against the stout LSU defense. I expect that to continue here as the Rebels would love nothing more than to close out their disappointing season with a win ion this spot. That being said, the Bulldogs should have no problems moving the ball themselves, and they’ll look to its ground attack to take advantage of the Rebs “D” that’s allowed opponents to rush for 200 yards per game in 3 of its last 4 games. Last years Egg Bowl was a snoozer, but this one looks to be of the higher scoring variety. Expect Ole Miss to threaten early, but for the Dawgs to pull away in the second half thus allowing us to cash this ticket on the ‘Over’….

USC -4

November 22, 2007
Sun Devil Stadium , Tempe , AZ
8:00 PM ET

This Thursday night the USC Trojans are on the road in Arizona to play the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Sun Devils have a strong team this season but once again I have to go with my heart and home team on this one. This 4 pt spread should be no sweat at all for J.D. Booty and the Trojans. Booty boasts a 63% completion rate with 1525 yards for 15 Touchdowns. Senior tight end Fred Davis is also having a good year with 44 receptions for 634 yds and 4 touchdows. Number 11, USC, on BCS rankings will be moving up a few spots as of Thursday night. As we come to the end of the NCAA Football season that #1 spot comes closer and closer to California with each game the Trojans play from now on. The Trojans came into this season on a roll and some how lost site but they are falling right back into the captain’s chair.

Look for a final score in this game of 31-24 USC taking the win.

This Thursday night the bet is defintely on the USC Trojans…

Hawaii

November 16, 2007
Mackay Stadium , Reno , NV
11:00 PM ET

For this Friday night’s late game we have #16 Hawaii Warriors vs. the Nevada Wolf Pack. Theres no line spread up yet for this game but I am sure it will be high. Hawaii is currently 9-0, 5-0 at home and 4-0 on the road.

Senior QB Colt Brennan has a 69% pass completion rate for 3216 yards and 28 touchdowns making Hawaii the number one highest scoring team in the NCCA football league at the moment. Ryan Grice-Mullen, junior wide reciever currently holds a record of 75 receptions for 1080 yds and 9 TDs, contributing to Hawaii being #2 for passing yards. Nevada faces a very tuff team this weekend and I think we are in for yet another upsetting game. I forsee a final score in this game of 50-37 Hawaii.

This friday night the bet is defintely on the Hawaii Warriors…

Oregon -12.5

November 15, 2007
Arizona Stadium , Tucson , AZ
9:00 PM ET

Dennis Dixon’s Oregona Ducks are coming into this encounter off a restfull bye week. He and his team are charged up and at full health levels for Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Wildcats. I think Arizona is in for a heavy upset. Ranked #2 for the BCS, Oregon should have no problem covering this 12.5 pt spread.

The Ducks are currently 8-1 and havent played since beating then-No. 6 Arizona State 35-23 on Nov. 3 to hand the Sun Devils their first loss of the season. It came a week after they beat then-No. 9 Southern California 24-17.

Oregon has an incredible passing game. Their Heisman Trophy candidate QB has thrown for 2,074 yards with 20 touchdowns and rushed for 549 yards and eight scores.

The Ducks hold a 3-0 road record which will soon change to a 4-0 record for the season.

For this Thursday the bet is on the Oregon Ducks -12.5 !!

Rutgers -19.0

November 9, 2007
Michie Stadium, West Point , NY
8:00 PM ET

Rutgers has failed in its last two outings against the Big East elite, and will now take their show on the road to West Point where they will face the Army Cadets. The Scarlet Knights haven’t lived up to their pre-season hype which i clearly evident by their poor 5-4 mark. A win here will make HC Schiano’s men, Bowl eligible for the third straight season. The same can’t be said of Army who’s in the midst of yet another disappointing season. They have tied last years season win total at three, but they’ll have to win out against Rutgers, Tulsa, and Navy to secure a Bowl bid for the first time since 1996. They would need a real twist of fate in order to acomplish that.

Army hasn’t been able to get much pressure on opposing QB’s (13 sacks in 9 games), and they come into this game allowing 200+ YPG on the ground. That means RB Ray Rice will get a heavy workload to add to the 1257 yards he’s gained this season. Then when Army decides to load the box up, QB Mike Teel should pick them apart downfield by looking to WRs Underwood and Britt. This will be the first time in almost a month that Rutgers will get to flex its offensive muscle, and I don’t foresee them passing on the opportunity.

Place your bets on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights -19 !!

Louisville +16.5

November 8, 2007
Mountaineer Field , Morgantown , WV
7:30 PM ET

West Virginia and Louisville each began the season expecting to play in a BCS game. The way things are going I dont see WV getting that chance. The Mountaineers have a strong team this season but I doubt that they will be able to cover this 16.5 point spread against the Cardinals. Louisville is coming into this game with much heart. They are looking for the win at this and their next two games in order to win the Big East. I must note that West Virgina is on a 3 game winning streak and this could possibly be their 4th but like the laws of gravity state, what goes up…must come down.
I am confident that one-time Heisman Trophy candidate, Brian Brohm, will lead the Louisville Cardinals to a win this Thursday night. He is second in the nation in passing yards (3,229), third in yards per game (358.8) and tied for fourth in touchdowns (26). He threw for 354 yards and a TD versus West Virginia last season, and has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 631 yards and three touchdowns in two contests against the Mountaineers.

Like I said I doubt West Virginia will be able to cover this spread.

Place your bets on the Louisville Cardinals +16.5 !!
