Orlando Magic -2

Las Vegas put out a real low line on this game and I think the Orlando Magic will hand it to the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

The Orlando Magic have taken four lines in their last five encounters and I don’t see any reason for them not to continue that streak. The last time these two teams met, at the beginning of the season in Washington and with Butler and Arenas, Orlando won by 12 points. Final score was 94 – 82.

Wizards are without Butler and Arenas already for two games so far. They were able to defeat the Bulls on the road and beat New Orleans at home. I really doubt the Wizards will go 3 – 0 without two of their star players.

The Orlando Magic reserved their strength against Toronto. Turkoglu played only 40 minutes and all other players were kept under the 40minute mark. Orlando knows that they have Cleveland on their back and won’t let this game against the Wizards get by them.

This Thursday night the bet is on the Orlando Magic-2!!

San Antonio Spurs -6 at New Orleans Hornets

I really do not see the Hornets finishing first in the West. James would have to show his ability from the times in Toronto and previous spell in Houston in order to do so.  I think they will finish 4th – 6th place with around 30 losses. That means, they should do the second half of the season around 50% wins only. Hornets are a deceiving team. You look at player by player and you see a title contender, but if you look at the whole team, you don’t see nothing more than a first round team.

Spurs on the other hand should have a solid second half of the NBA season with anywhere between 55 - 57 wins. That should be enough for the home court advantage in the first round. They added Damon Stoudamire and later Kurt Thomas that should play today.

In the game today we should see Duncan dominating the boards and leading his team to victory. It is as simple as that. West or Chandler don’t stand a chance guarding him and even though with Parker out, I doubt that will stop the Spurs. In order for Hornets to win, they need a strong day from their Peja. I think that Popovich knows it as well and will put Bowen on him and tell him not to leave him alone for a second.

The handicap can always be an issue and 6 points handicap means that Spurs needs a solid win for us to cash in.

Utah Jazz -2

January 28, 2008
EnergySolutions Arena, Salt Lake City, UT
9:00 PM ET on NBA TV

The Jazz are a fantastic 18-3 at home this season while winning by an impressive average of +12.8 points per game. They are a sparkling 22-8-1 against the spread in their last 31 contests going back to last season. They have also won four straight and seven of their last nine and they have won eight straight at home.

The Spurs appeared to be in a spot to assert themselves on Saturday, as they figured to make a statement vs. a New Orleans Hornets team that owns the best record in the Western Conference. Instead, San Antonio scored a grand total of only 51 points over the last three quarters of a 102-78 blowout loss, the worst home loss of Tim Duncan’s career. They must now go on a long road trip as the rodeo comes to the Alamo Dome, and the Spurs have a losing 8-9 record away from home this season while going 6-11 against the spread.

I feel the home team will dominate yet another game and cover the spread by far!! This is a small price to pay for a team with the records that the Utah Jazz are boasting for this season.

This Monday night the bet is on the Utah Jazz -2 !!

Detroit Pistons -1

There is a lot of similarities between this series and the ongoing Spurs/Jazz Western Conference Finals.

The superior San Antonio Spurs won the first two games at home, then relaxed a bit as the Utah Jazz won Game 3 at home. They then took control of the series by winning Game 4 on the road. If you substitute the Detroit Pistons for the Spurs and the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Jazz, you get exactly what happened in the first three games of this series.

Thus, like the Spurs, we now look for the Pistons to bring their “A” game tonight for the first time in this series.I expect them to get out of Cleveland with a rather handy victory and a 3-1 series lead. Detroit has by far the best defense in the Eastern Conference, and that unit is the reason they have been able to sleepwalk through the first three games and yet still have the lead in this series. They have done a good job of containing LeBron James except for the fourth quarter of Game 3, and you can bet that they will stifle him from start to finish tonight, daring one of the Cavalier role players to beat them.

Since Cleveland simply does not have a dependable second option right now, shutting down James should be enough for the Pistons to emerge victorious this evening.

Tonight bet on the Detroit Pistons -1 …

San Antonio Spurs -3

The last time these clubs got together here in San Antonio, the game was played at the Spurs’ pace as the Phoenix offense could not get going until the middle of the fourth quarter.

Yet, those six minutes of Suns basketball was enough for Phoenix to rally for the improbable road victory. However, the Spurs were lucky that Amare Stoudemire was suspended for Game 5, and they took advantage to take a 3-2 series lead. Now in this potential series-deciding game, we look for San Antonio to once again dictate the pace, just as they have the last two games. Unlike Game 4 however, we do not foresee a late-game breakdown this time around, so look for the Spurs to wrap up the series tonight and advance to the Western Conference Finals to face the Utah Jazz.

After all, San Antonio is the far superior defensive team here, and although the Suns somehow won their last game in this building despite the Spurs dictating the pace, we are practically daring Phoenix to try and win that style of game again!

Tonight the bet is Spurs -3 !!

Sacramento Kings @ Indiana Pacers u202

The UNDER is 3-0 in the last three head-to-head meetings between these teams, and we look for more of the same today.

Furthermore those games did not come close to approaching this posted total, producing point totals of 189 (in overtime), 191 and 191 points respectively. The Pacers are also playing stingy defense at home this season, allowing just 94.7 points per game with the UNDER going 15-13, and we see them slowing down the Sacramento offense again in here.

Yes the Kings have now gone OVER in six straight games, and they have gone over 100 points in five of their last seven contests. However we feel that has only served to inflate the total in this spot. After all, the Pacers defense has been just as stout vs. Sacramento as it has vs. the rest of the league, holding the Kings under below the century mark in five of the last six meetings. Bet on the Sacramento Kings and Indian Pacers game Under 202 tonight.

Toronto Raptors vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Tonight the pick is Cleveland over Toronto. Cavs are returning to the ‘Q’ with revenge on their minds after their loss earlier this year against the Raptors. With Cleveland in off an 18-point loss and Toronto off an upset win, look for the Cavs to improve to 12-4-1 ATS in this series.

Take the Cavs!!

Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets

Tonight the pick is Golden State Warriors. Yes, the Warriors who lost by 40 at San Antone last night. But NBA teams off a 40 point loss are super when matched up against a foe that’s NOT off back to back wins. This teams is 44-20 ATS since 1990. This time we keeep it short and simple…Take Golden State!!

Orlando Magic vs Utah Jazz

You can put me down on the Utah Jazz -5.5 (-110) for Monday’s NBA Selection. Today the Orlando Magic will be on the road as they take on the Utah Jazz. The Magic have been a solid overall team this season (10-4 record), however, when they are playing on the road they stink. The Magic’s last three losses have been on the road (including getting beat as favorites to the Grizzlies). As for the Jazz, they play spectacular basketball at home. The Jazz are a perfect 7-0 at home this season, and have won those games by an average of double-digits. A big key for the Jazz tonight comes on the offensive end. On the road this season the Magic are only scoring an average 93.2 points per game, while the Jazz are scoring an average of 109 points per game at home. I have no problem laying the points with a Jazz team who is a perfect 7-0 at home, while having only two losses (14-2 record) on the season. Take the Utah Jazz and give up the points!
